The Allegany Wind Project is located in the town of Allegany, Cattaraugus County in the southern tier region of New York State. It is located remote area on more than 5,000 acres (less than 250 acres will actually be utilized) leased from private owners. The land is currently used for timber and oil activities. Construction is expected to begin in 2012 and be operational by the end of 2013.
Economic Benefits of the Allegany Wind Project
• The Allegany Wind Project will make approximately $10 million in payments to the County, School District and Town over 20 years.
• Construction of the project will require local labor as well as local services and construction materials. It is expected to have a $53.7 million impact on the region.
• The operation and maintenance of the project will require 4-6 full-time employees and require approximately $1 million in local goods and services each year.
