Tax blocks wind-farm growth, group says By Dan Gearino
The Columbus Dispatch, Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Ohio lags other states in generating power from the wind partly because of high taxes, an industry group said yesterday. Even so, the state is in the top 10 in the number of workers making wind-energy components.
"I think Ohio has an amazing opportunity here," said Brad Lystra of the American Wind Energy Association, speaking in Columbus.
As he sees it, the way to grab the opportunity to generate more wind power is to cut a utility property tax that applies to developments such as wind farms. That has been proposed in separate House and Senate bills.
Gov. Ted Strickland supports easing the tax, said Mark Shanahan, the governor's top energy adviser. read more >>
